Prabowo Meets Charnvirakul, Congratulates Him on Election as Thai PM

President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the state visit of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, His Excellency Anutin Charnvirakul, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Prabowo congratulated Charnvirakul on his election as Prime Minister of Thailand.

He made the remarks during a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (8/3/2026). Prime Minister Charnvirakul and the Thai government delegation were in attendance at the meeting.

“Your Excellency, allow me also to congratulate you on your election and appointment as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand,” said Prabowo as he opened the meeting between the two countries.

Prabowo said that relations between Indonesia and Thailand have long been established. He noted that Indonesia and Thailand still have commercial issues that must be resolved.

“As you know, relations between Indonesia and Thailand have been established for a long time. We have a very good relationship. We may have some commercial issues that we would like to resolve as quickly and as well as possible,” he said.

Prabowo expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would be closely intertwined to strengthen their strategic partnership. One area Prabowo highlighted was cooperation in the economic sphere.

“I think we both have strong economies as part of ASEAN. We have significant populations and we have common commodities that we share, I think. Rubber, tin, and many others. So I am very optimistic that we can enhance our relations in all fields,” he said.
