Prabowo Meets Australian Deputy Prime Minister to Discuss Strategic Issues
President Prabowo Subianto met with Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. The meeting took place at Prabowo’s private residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated in his remarks that the meeting served as an occasion for two long-standing acquaintances who now hold strategic positions in their respective governments to strengthen their relationship.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed and exchanged views on several important issues. According to Teddy’s written statement on Thursday, 12 March 2026, “The meeting proceeded warmly and with great familiarity, affirming the close personal relationship between the two leaders.”
In addition to strategic matters, Prabowo and Marles also discussed regional dynamics relevant to both countries. “They conversed informally whilst exchanging views on important issues, and this meeting has become a symbol of closeness and strong cooperation between Indonesia and Australia,” Teddy said.
The personal relationship between Prabowo and Marles is regarded as an important foundation in strengthening Indonesia’s strategic partnership with Australia, particularly in maintaining regional stability and expanding cooperation across various sectors.
