President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 27 March 2026. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya described the moment as a reunion between two old friends.
“This afternoon, President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from his old friend, who is also the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta,” Teddy said in a written statement on Friday.
According to Teddy, the meeting between the two national leaders took place in a warm atmosphere. While chatting, Teddy said, Prabowo and Anwar Ibrahim also exchanged greetings in connection with Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
In addition, they discussed political dynamics, particularly the war between the United States and Israel against Iran in the West Asia region. “And various strategic issues that are of common concern,” he added.
Teddy said the meeting between Prabowo and Anwar Ibrahim lasted around three hours from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. WIB. After the meeting at the palace, Anwar headed directly to Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta to return to Malaysia.
Teddy stated that Prabowo accompanied Anwar to Halim Airport. “President Prabowo escorted Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s departure in the same car to Halim airport,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
According to the Presidential Secretariat’s statement, Anwar, accompanied by Prabowo, walked towards the vehicle after the meeting at Merdeka Palace. The two continued to converse while heading to the vehicle as the song Rasa Sayange was played to bid farewell to Anwar’s departure.
Not stopping at the vehicle door, Prabowo joined in escorting Prime Minister Anwar’s departure from Merdeka Palace by riding in the same vehicle. Upon arriving at Halim Perdanakusuma, Anwar was farewelled with an honour guard lined along the path to the aircraft stairs.
Prabowo then bid farewell to Anwar at the aircraft stairs. In addition, at the base of the aircraft stairs, several officials were seen seeing off Anwar, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
From the base of the aircraft stairs, President Prabowo waved his hand, which was then reciprocated by Anwar from the front of the aircraft door as a sign of parting. Around 7:20 p.m. WIB, the aircraft carrying Anwar Ibrahim and his entourage departed, leaving Indonesia.
Anwar had previously landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta on Friday afternoon. The Prime Minister was directly welcomed by Foreign Minister Sugiono. Anwar shared the moment of his arrival in Jakarta via his X social media account @anwaribrahim.
