Prabowo-MBZ Ramadan Diplomacy
President Prabowo Subianto used the momentum of Ramadan to continue high-level diplomacy in Abu Dhabi. During his working visit to the United Arab Emirates, Prabowo met directly with President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Qasr Al Bahr Palace, Thursday (26/2).
Quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s press release, the meeting took place in the palace’s open garden, with a backdrop of palm trees and the Abu Dhabi sunset. The round-table format, bringing together both delegations, created a space for equal dialogue.
From the Indonesian side, Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE Judha Nugraha, and Director General of PT Pindad Sigit P. Santosa.
Meanwhile, MBZ was accompanied by a number of senior Emirati officials, including Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei and UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem Al Dhaheri.
The agenda did not stop at the formal meeting. The two leaders continued the conversation in a relaxed atmosphere during an iftar together.
The moment of breaking the fast and performing the Maghrib prayer together became part of the series of diplomacy that took place in a more relaxed manner, before continuing with an expanded meeting to discuss strategic issues.
In that session, the two countries explored opportunities for cooperation in energy, investment, and strengthening long-term economic partnerships.
The meeting was then concluded with a tête-à-tête, reflecting an effort to strengthen direct communication at the highest level.
This meeting takes place in the 50th year of Indonesia-UAE diplomatic relations. Half a century of relations between the two countries is an important context for this discussion, amid efforts by each to expand their economic networks and strategic influence in the region. (Z-1)
