JAKARTA — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said that commemorating Pancasila Day is an opportunity to reflect on the birth of Indonesia’s state foundation 81 years ago.

“Today we mark 81 years since Pancasila’s birth. 81 years ago, Bung Karno stood before the Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independence and presented the grand idea that became the philosophical foundation of the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo said during the Pancasila Day ceremony at the Gedung Pancasila, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, on Monday (1 June 2026).

“Pancasila is a grand consensus, a national agreement that allows our nation, consisting of thousands of islands, hundreds of ethnic groups, languages, and diverse cultures, to live as one people,” he added.

The theme for the 2026 Pancasila Day commemoration is “Pancasila: Nation Unifier, Foundation of World Peace.”

“Amid a world increasingly divided by conflicts, geopolitical rivalries, trade wars, and economic uncertainty, Indonesia has a firm anchor: Pancasila,” Prabowo said.

The ceremony concluded with a prayer led by Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti.

This year’s Pancasila Day commemoration was attended by all participants in a disciplined and solemn manner, as a gesture of respect for the foundational values underpinning national life.
