Prabowo mandates French language teaching in all Indonesian schools
President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the expansion of French language learning across all levels of education in Indonesia. The directive was issued as part of strengthening educational cooperation with France.
“In education, we aim to further enhance it. I have now instructed that all levels of Indonesian schools must learn French, in view of future global developments,” President Prabowo stated during a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday local time.
This marks Prabowo’s fourth visit to France since assuming the presidency 20 months ago.
According to President Prabowo, mastering foreign languages, including French, is crucial to prepare the younger generation for evolving global dynamics as Indonesia and France deepen ties across various sectors.
He noted that bilateral cooperation in science and technology continues to show positive progress.
He also stressed the importance of Indonesia and France’s role in maintaining global stability amid rising uncertainties.
