Prabowo Mandates French Language Education in Indonesian Schools
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto stated that bilateral relations between Indonesia and France are strong, but there is scope for improvement, particularly in education.
He made the comments during a press conference following the official state welcome ceremony hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday, 28 May 2026, evening WIB.
‘Our bilateral relations are currently very strong, thanks to President Macron’s direct support,’ he said.
Prabowo noted that cooperation between Indonesia and France in defence, science, and technology is robust.
‘In education, we aim to further strengthen ties. I have instructed that French be taught in all Indonesian schools in light of future global developments,’ he said.
Prabowo added that in the current global climate of uncertainty, tension, and conflict, Indonesia and France can play a positive role.
‘Indonesia will always promote efforts to maintain world peace, as the world is becoming smaller due to science and technology. War and conflict cannot bring benefits to anyone,’ he said.
‘We are pleased to have a comprehensive strategic partnership and look forward to more concrete, balanced, and impactful cooperation in the future,’ he added.
