President Prabowo Subianto has explained Indonesia’s continued membership on the Board of Peace (BoP), clarifying that the nation’s participation is solely intended to support Palestinian independence through a two-state solution.

Prabowo made these remarks in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg, titled “Prabowo Open to Breach Indonesia Deficit Cap Only During Crisis,” as reported by the Government Communications Agency on Monday 16 March.

“If we are within it (BoP), we can still influence and work towards a long-term solution, which in our view is an independent Palestine and a two-state solution,” Prabowo stated.

The President explained that plans to deploy peacekeeping forces to Gaza are currently suspended. He also noted that all discussions related to the BoP have been postponed following the escalation of Middle Eastern conflicts.

Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia will not join any military alliance. He underscored that Indonesia remains consistent in implementing its principle of independent and active foreign policy.

“We cannot be part of any military alliance,” Prabowo stated.

The President stressed that Indonesia stands on its own feet and will not depend on the strength of other nations. He reaffirmed that Indonesia must build strong defence capabilities.

Prabowo also noted that Indonesia maintains good relations with all neighbouring countries and maintains a defensive military posture.
