Prabowo: Lunar New Year as Momentum for National Unity

President Subianto of the Republic of Indonesia delivered greetings for the Lunar New Year 2577 Kongzili and termed the Imlek celebration a momentum for national unity.

“On behalf of myself and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, I wish you a happy Lunar New Year 2577, the Year of the Fire Horse. Gong Xi Fa Cai,” said Prabowo in a video presented at the Harmoni Imlek Nusantara event at Banteng Field, Central Jakarta, on Saturday evening (28 February).

“Lunar New Year is not merely a religious celebration. Imlek is a moment of nationhood, brotherhood, and unity,” he added.

Prabowo stated that the 2026 Imlek celebration with the theme “Harmoni Imlek Nusantara” reflects the identity of the Indonesian nation, which is great because of its diversity, strong because of its unity, and resolute because of its togetherness.

This celebration, according to Prabowo, not only showcases tradition and culture, but also affirms the values of mutual cooperation, solidarity, and humanitarianism.

“The Imlek Festival 2026 is a celebration that affirms that Indonesia is not built by one ethnicity alone or one group alone, but by all the children of the nation,” he said.

Prabowo expressed that this year’s Imlek celebration holds profound meaning because it occurs alongside the holy month of Ramadan.

“This is the true face of Indonesia. Different yet harmonious, diverse yet united in purpose,” he said.

The Imlek Festival 2026 is being held in various cities across Indonesia, including Jakarta, Medan, Palembang, Batam, Bogor, Semarang, Solo, Surabaya, Pontianak, Singkawang, Makassar, and Manado.

“This harmony lives throughout the archipelago,” said Prabowo.
