Prabowo links judicial welfare to anti-corruption efforts

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has asserted that judges’ salaries must be continuously improved as part of the government’s efforts to eradicate corruption and prevent judges from accepting bribes.

During his speech at the 28th anniversary of the National Mandate Party (PAN), monitored online in Jakarta on Friday night, Prabowo stated that the government also needs to improve the welfare of teachers.

“Teachers’ salaries must be improved, judges’ salaries must be improved because we want to eradicate corruption,” he said.

Prabowo stated that increasing the welfare of judges is necessary to maintain the integrity of the judicial institution and to prevent judges from being influenced by bribery practices.

“We do not want our judges to be bribed. We do not want our judges to be bought,” he emphasised.

In addition to teachers and judges, the Head of State stated that the government needs to pay attention to the welfare of healthcare workers.

“Our nurses must be looked after, our doctors must be looked after,” he said.

Prabowo then touched upon the various tasks undertaken by the government over the past almost two years. According to him, the government continues to work towards resolving various issues because the needs of the community cannot wait.

“Our success is significant because we keep working; we have been working continuously these past two years,” he said.

Prabowo acknowledged that the government has ultimately been perceived as communicating insufficiently with the public. He noted that this occurred because the government has focused more on addressing various community needs, ranging from the construction of village bridges to the renovation of schools.

“Communication is lacking because we are constantly working. We are chasing after the needs of the people, which cannot wait any longer,” he said.

In background, the government previously increased judges’ income after it had not seen an increase for 12 years. During the Plenary Cabinet Meeting in July 2026, Prabowo stated that the income increase for several judicial levels reached approximately 280 per cent.

According to Prabowo, this improvement in welfare is necessary so that judges can live decently, maintain the honour of their profession, and remain resistant to bribery. The government has also directed the provision of housing for judges and judicial officials as part of their welfare enhancement.
