Prabowo Leads National Pilgrimage at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery at Night
The national pilgrimage and solemn reflection, an important part of the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence, took place in a reverent atmosphere. President Prabowo Subianto led the national pilgrimage and solemn reflection as part of the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta on Sunday night (16/8/2026).
The procession took place in a solemn atmosphere. The President laid a wreath and led a moment of silence as an expression of prayer and deep appreciation.
“Thank you for the services of the heroes who have safeguarded the honour and sovereignty of the nation. May your devotion always live on, illuminating the path of struggle, and become an eternal strength for the Indonesian people in continuing the nation’s ideals,” Prabowo wrote on his Instagram account.
The national pilgrimage and solemn reflection are an important part of the series of commemorations for the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence. Amid the quiet night atmosphere, the activity served as a space to remember the sacrifices of the heroes while reaffirming the commitment to continue the ideals of the struggle for Indonesia.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the national pilgrimage and solemn reflection were a momentum to strengthen the awareness of all elements of the nation that the independence enjoyed today is the result of the struggle and sacrifice of predecessors. He said the spirit of heroism would continue to be a source of inspiration in maintaining unity, strengthening mutual cooperation, and continuing national development.
“The government invites all members of society to make the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia a momentum to remember the services of the heroes while strengthening the shared commitment to fill independence with real work, maintain unity, and provide the best contribution for Indonesia’s progress,” said Prasetyo.
