Prabowo Leads Limited Meeting on Forest Fire Handling and Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption

President Prabowo Subianto chaired a limited meeting on the handling of a number of disasters in Indonesia. Prabowo received reports from cabinet members as well as regional governments.

Prabowo led the limited meeting from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (7/9/2026) in a hybrid format, with cabinet members and regional heads connected via teleconference.

“I simply want to monitor developments while also hearing the latest situation,” Prabowo said.

At the Merdeka Palace, Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Head of the Defence Ministry’s Logistics Agency, Air Marshal TNI Yusuf Jauhari.

Prabowo observed that it is Indonesia’s destiny to be frequently struck by disasters, as the country lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Nevertheless, Prabowo said disaster response must be carried out swiftly and precisely, with public safety remaining the top priority.

“We are facing various circumstances caused by disasters: the earthquake in Flores, then now the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, and also forest fires and smoke that remain a problem for all of us,” he added.
