Prabowo Leads Funeral Service of Former Vice President Try Sutrisno at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, with Gibran in Attendance
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto presided over the funeral service of the late Try Sutrisno, Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP Kalibata) in South Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Try Sutrisno passed away at the age of 90 at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto military hospital in Central Jakarta at 06:58. The funeral service commenced at 13:30 WIB, following a prayer service held at Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Central Jakarta.
Upon arrival at the cemetery, President Prabowo personally received the deceased’s casket and walked behind it during the procession to the burial site. Rain fell throughout the funeral ceremony.
The service was conducted in military fashion and opened with the ceremony commander’s report to President Prabowo, who served as the ceremony’s inspector. This was followed by a reading of the deceased’s brief biography. Prabowo then led the reading of the Apel Persada, the formal state presentation.
“I, President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the nation and the Indonesian National Armed Forces, hereby present to Mother Earth the soul, body, and services of the late Try Sutrisno. Name: Try Sutrisno. Position: Sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the period 1993-1998, Commander of the Armed Forces for the period 1988-1993. Son of Subandi (deceased) who passed away in service of the nation and the honour of the country. On Monday, 2 March 2026 at 06:58 WIB in Jakarta,” Prabowo stated.
“May the path of service he undertook serve as an example to us all, and may his spirit find the best place beside the Almighty God,” he added.
Try Sutrisno’s burial site is located directly adjacent to the grave of retired General Pramono Edhi Wibowo. The location is also near the burial site of former First Lady Kristiani Herrawati, also known as Ani Yudhoyono.
Among those attending the ceremony were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Indonesia’s sixth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, tenth and twelfth Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla, and eleventh Vice President Budiono. Members of the Red and White Cabinet were also present, including Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
