Prabowo: Law Enforcement Key to Attracting Investors
President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that law enforcement is the primary foundation for creating a healthy business climate and encouraging investment into Indonesia. According to him, a nation’s success in building its economy depends heavily on the ability of business actors to create jobs. In his speech at the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) National Congress in Lampung on Wednesday, Prabowo stated that entrepreneurs play a strategic role as the engine of national economic revival. Therefore, the government is obliged to provide a conducive business environment so that the business world can grow and develop. “Entrepreneurs are the key to a nation’s revival; you are the ones who will create jobs. That is why the government must create good conditions for entrepreneurs,” said Prabowo, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel. One of the main prerequisites for a healthy business climate, he continued, is legal certainty. Without strong law enforcement, the business world will face uncertainty, which ultimately harms all parties. Prabowo assessed that weak law enforcement would give rise to practices based on the strength and interests of certain groups, rather than fair rules. “Among those good conditions is that we must enforce the law. If we do not enforce the law, what occurs is the law of the jungle, where the rule is based on power, and in the end, it is not good for all of us,” he said. Prabowo also refuted the notion that his administration is unfriendly towards foreign investors. According to him, this perception does not match the reality on the ground. Prabowo revealed that until now, he continues to meet with various prospective investors who show interest in investing in Indonesia. This serves as proof that confidence in the national economic prospects remains high. “There are those who say Prabowo does not like and will expel foreign investors, but it turns out that is not the case. I meet many investors who are looking to come in,” he explained. Nevertheless, Prabowo acknowledged that there are still parties who do not wish for the rule of law to be upheld because they benefit more from conditions of disorder. According to him, this challenge must be faced together so that Indonesia can create a competitive and trustworthy business environment. The Head of State also called on the business community to remain optimistic in facing a challenging global economic situation. He reminded them that economic difficulties are not only being experienced by Indonesia but by almost every country in the world. Therefore, Prabowo asked entrepreneurs to make the spirit of nationalism their main capital to continue to grow and create new job opportunities for the public. “So I entrust you, rise up with an extraordinary spirit of love for the motherland. There will be difficulties, certainly. The difficulties now are not only ours; almost the whole world is struggling,” he concluded.
