Danantara Indonesia CEO Rosan Roeslani has affirmed the organisation’s commitment to developing the national electric motorcycle (Molinas) and its supporting ecosystem. He made the statement during the launch of Molinas by President Prabowo Subianto in Bekasi, West Java, on Thursday (13/8/2026).

“Today’s event is very important and strategic because it aligns with the President’s directive that we must be self-sufficient, we must stand on our own feet for every economic activity in Indonesia,” Rosan said.

Rosan stated that Indonesia possesses the resources to build Molinas self-sufficiency. He noted that this initiative represents collaboration and synergy between the government, state-owned enterprises, national entrepreneurs, and national companies to enhance the role of national self-reliance.

“If we look at it, the recipe for our national electric motorcycle is all here with us, especially as we will fully push for the use of nickel-based batteries for this national electric vehicle,” Rosan continued.

Rosan pointed out that Indonesia holds 46 per cent of the world’s nickel reserves. He added that the country also has the technology to develop Molinas.

“This Molinas can be affordable and of high quality, especially as we can carry out the downstream processing of this nickel into battery cells and battery packs so they can be used in the future production of Molinas,” Rosan elaborated.

Rosan explained that there are 140 million motorcycles in Indonesia, with purchases of around six million to seven million units annually. However, he noted that electric motorcycle purchase transactions account for only one per cent, or around 60,000 to 70,000 units.

Rosan stated that the market size for electric motorcycles could reach 170 billion US dollars. He mentioned that more than 10 national companies have met the local content requirements set by the Ministry of Industry.

“We will work together under the direction and cooperation with LEN so that we have international standardisation,” Rosan added.

Rosan expressed confidence that Molinas will not only become a champion regionally but also globally. He revealed that he has spoken with all banks and financial institutions under Danantara. The state-owned banks, he continued, are ready to support and provide funding with lower interest rates and longer tenors.

“We will arrange it so that the down payment, which according to information from our banks currently stands at 10 per cent, we will try to reduce or even eliminate so that public interest in buying these electric motorcycles can grow quickly and smoothly,” Rosan concluded.
