Prabowo Launches EV Battery Exports and 11 Downstreaming Projects Worth Rp180 Trillion in North Maluku

Central Halmahera, VIVA – President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday (8 October 2026) launched Indonesia’s first electric vehicle (EV) battery export and 11 downstreaming projects at the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in Central Halmahera, North Maluku.

The projects have a total investment value of US$10.2 billion, or around Rp180 trillion.

“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today I, President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, launch the first export of electric vehicle batteries, four industrial projects entering the commercial stage, and the groundbreaking of seven industrial projects at the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo then sounded a siren to mark the launch. He was accompanied by National Economic Council chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan; Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto; Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition, and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia; Investment and Downstreaming Minister and Danantara chief executive Rosan Roeslani; and the leaders of the companies involved in the projects.

The four projects entering the commercial stage are Blue Sparking Energy, REPT Battero Indonesia, Pioneer Aluminium Industries and XCMG Indonesia Manufacturing. The seven projects whose construction was launched are Guangqing Nickel Cobalt, Eno Prima Material, Tinci Materials Indonesia, Weda Bay Aluminium, Bintang Karya Aluminium, Flat Solar Energy Indonesia and Guangqing Motor Indonesia.

In his remarks, Prabowo said the first export of EV batteries was a historic milestone for Indonesia. He said it demonstrated that the country’s downstreaming strategy was on the right track and would continue.

“What we have seen today cannot be separated from yesterday. As I say every time, today’s success on the way to tomorrow’s success began yesterday. We respect previous governments and the leaders before me, who had the courage to take development steps such as these,” he said.

Prabowo praised everyone who had worked hard to make the EV battery export and launch of the 11 strategic projects possible. The President also expressed appreciation to domestic and foreign partners and investors for their confidence in investing in Indonesia.
