Prabowo Launches B50 Biodiesel at Km 57 Rest Area in Karawang

President Prabowo Subianto attended the launch of B50 biodiesel at the Km 57 rest area in Karawang, West Java. The implementation of B50 is part of the government’s efforts to diversify energy sources while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Prabowo, accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani, arrived at the location at 14.15 WIB. Before the inauguration, he conducted a gallery walk, listening to an explanation about the B50 biodiesel’s composition, production process, and testing from the Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, Eniya Listiani Dewi. The B50 programme mandates a 50 percent blend of biodiesel in diesel fuel. This policy is a strategic government agenda to increase the value of national natural resources and bolster energy and economic resilience. The programme is regulated under the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 4 of 2025 concerning the Provision and Utilisation of Biofuel and the Ministerial Decree Number 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026 regarding the mandatory 50 percent biodiesel blend in diesel fuel. During a transition period, fuel providers are permitted to exhaust their existing B40 specification biodiesel stocks until 30 September 2026. Prior to its national rollout, B50 underwent comprehensive testing across six sectors: automotive, agricultural machinery, mining heavy equipment, marine transportation, power generation, and railways. The event was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Housing and Settlement Maruarar Sirait, Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Head of the State Intelligence Agency Herindra, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono, and Head of the Presidential Communication Office Muhammad Qodari, along with the Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, the Governor of West Java Dedi Mulyadi, the Governor of Central Java Ahmad Luthfi, and the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
