Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto kissed the Gontor Al Quran Mushaf, which was personally presented by the Leader of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor, KH Hasan Abdullah Sahal, during a thanksgiving reception for the 100th anniversary of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor in Ponorogo, East Java, on Saturday.

According to an official broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat monitored in Jakarta, the presentation ceremony took place following KH Hasan Abdullah Sahal’s keynote speech. The President directly received a multi-volume book titled “Gontor for Indonesia.”

After receiving the book, the President was presented with the Gontor Al Quran Mushaf, housed in a brown velvet frame. Prabowo was seen gazing at the Al Quran for several moments before kissing it in the presence of the invited guests.

“We can only offer this book as a gift from Gontor to Indonesia, while simultaneously inaugurating the Gontor Mushaf, which was printed by Gontor students, published by Gontor’s printing press, distributed to Gontor students, and gifted to you, Sir, and the children of Indonesia,” said KH Hasan.

In his closing remarks, KH Hasan Abdullah Sahal expressed his hopes for the continued relationship between Gontor and the government. “Hopefully, we, the state of Indonesia, and the Indonesian nation will continue to work together,” stated Hasan.

The book “Gontor for Indonesia” was compiled as part of Gontor’s centenary tribute. It reviews Gontor’s long journey over nearly 100 years and documents the pesantren’s contributions to building national education and producing prominent figures across various fields.

The Gontor Al Quran Mushaf was written directly by the teachers (ustadz) and students of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor and printed by Gontor’s publishing house.

The writing project for this mushaf began in 2023 and took nearly three years to complete, undergoing a rigorous ‘tashih’ process—verification of the accuracy and validity of the recitation—before printing.

A further distinction of this mushaf is its status as the first mushaf written by a pesantren following Indonesian Standards for subsequent printing. The initial print run of the Gontor Mushaf consisted of 2,000 copies.
