Prabowo Jokes with Journalist Receiving Subsidised Mortgage: 'Don't Spread Hoaxes'

President Prabowo Subianto spoke directly with a number of recipients of subsidised Housing Ownership Loans (KPR) from various regions. Prabowo interacted with subsidy recipients from a range of professions, including teachers, online motorcycle taxi drivers, and journalists.

The interactive moment took place on the sidelines of the Mass KPR Sejahtera Mortgage Ceremony under the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) scheme, held in Batang, Central Java, on Thursday (30/7/2026). Prabowo witnessed first-hand the mass ceremony involving 62,000 debtors, both in person and virtually.

Prabowo cracked a joke while speaking with one of the subsidised mortgage recipients, a journalist by profession. He is a subsidised mortgage recipient in Tomohon, North Sulawesi.

In their dialogue, Prabowo advised the journalist not to produce news or information that is untrue or fake.

“No fake news, alright? That’s not allowed. Ha-ha-ha…,” said Prabowo.

The mass ceremony was conducted in a hybrid format involving 62,000 debtors, comprising 200 debtors present in person in Batang and 61,800 debtors participating online from 36 provinces.

The event was the third in a series of mass FLPP mortgage ceremonies, previously also attended by Prabowo in Cileungsi, Bogor, on 29 September 2025, and in Serang, Banten, on 20 December 2025. The mass ceremony activities are seen as a marker that the houses built are ready to be owned and occupied by the public.

Through the FLPP programme, the government provides easier access to housing financing for low-income households (MBR) through low fixed interest rates until the end of the loan term, a light down payment, and affordable instalments.

This reflects the government’s commitment to continue reducing the housing backlog and to provide decent, affordable, and sustainable housing for Indonesian families. As of July 2026, a total of 107,410 low-income households have been recorded as beneficiaries of FLPP financing, with an occupancy rate reaching 93.35 per cent.
