Prabowo Jokes About Coffee and Election Support During MPR Annual Session Speech
President Prabowo Subianto created a light moment during his speech at the 2026 MPR Annual Session at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday, 14 August 2026, when he suddenly asked permission to drink coffee. “Sorry, I ask for permission,” Prabowo said, as quoted from a broadcast on Parliament’s YouTube channel. After sipping his coffee, the President remarked on the quality of Indonesian coffee and joked about political support. “Indeed, Indonesian coffee is the best. Coffee-producing regions will definitely support me,” he said. On the occasion, Prabowo also touched on the upcoming election contestation, which he noted was still far off, adding that many candidates would eventually compete. “Relax, the election is still a long way off. There are many candidates,” he said. In his state address, Prabowo highlighted several important agendas, including the implementation of 121 transformative policies aimed at structural change and accelerating priority programmes. He described the task of governing as demanding, noting that his aides had to work hard to execute various government agendas. The President also stressed that state policy must be grounded in the 1945 Constitution, the interests of the people, and the interests of future generations.
