Prabowo Jokes About Becoming Coffee Brand Ambassador: Claims It Could Lead to Longevity

The atmosphere during the meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the leadership of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 31 July 2026, was warm and relaxed. During his welcoming remarks to Kadin officials from both central and regional levels, President Prabowo coughed several times and requested a brief moment to drink some coffee.

This moment immediately lightened the mood of the meeting, which was attended by business leaders from various regions. While raising his coffee cup, Prabowo joked that since becoming President, he felt as though he had been asked to become an ambassador for the Indonesian coffee industry. “I will drink some coffee for a moment; I have been asked that since becoming President, I should act as a brand ambassador for the Indonesian coffee industry, so that the coffee supply remains continuous,” Prabroph said.

Continuing his jest, Prabowo also cited research findings which, according to him, suggest that coffee consumption is linked to a longer life expectancy. The remark was met with laughter from the attendees. “Prabowo joked that he wants to ensure a continuous coffee supply, claiming that based on research, drinking coffee can extend life expectancy by approximately 17 to 20 per cent; the coffee company owners must be very happy,” Prabowo said while laughing.

The meeting between the President and the Kadin Indonesia leadership was convened to discuss various strategic issues regarding the national economy, including the strengthening of investment, industrial downstreaming, economic resilience, and the synergy between the government and the business sector in facing global economic challenges.
