Prabowo joins BRICS leaders for tree planting ceremony in India
President Prabowo Subianto participated in a tree planting ceremony alongside the leaders of BRICS member states during the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, India.
The procession took place after the BRICS leaders attended a group photo session and a closed-door meeting on the first day of the summit.
According to a live broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat monitored from Jakarta on Saturday, Prabowo, alongside other world leaders, helped shovel soil into the holes where the saplings were planted. The leaders then took turns watering the young trees.
Prior to the tree planting, Prabowo joined a group photo session with BRICS leaders. During the session, Prabowo stood to the right of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Other leaders in attendance included Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
The tree planting followed the summit’s opening and a private session titled “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism”.
Prabowo is also scheduled to attend several other agendas during the BRICS Summit, including visits to the “Bharat Innovates” and “BRICS @20” exhibitions. The first day of activities is scheduled to conclude with a formal dinner for the heads of state.
The 18th BRICS Summit is being held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from 12–13 September 2026, under the chairmanship of India. The summit carries the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”.
Prabowo’s presence at the summit marks Indonesia’s participation as a full member of BRICS.
