Prabowo: It Is Inappropriate to Call Economic Policy 'Prabowonomics'

President Prabowo Subianto has claimed that the economic concept frequently referred to as Prabowonomics is not his personal idea, but rather a mandate of the 1945 Constitution.

According to him, the economic policies pursued by the government are neither a new idea nor his own. He said the economic goals being pursued align with the ideals of the nation’s founders as set out in Articles 33 and 34 of the 1945 Constitution.

“I am touched that PKB, at its anniversary, has expressed such firm support for the new direction of our economy,” said Prabowo at the peak of the 28th anniversary celebration (Harlah) of the National Awakening Party (PKB) in Jakarta on Thursday evening (23 July).

Prabowo said that using his name in the term Prabowonomics to describe the concept was inappropriate.

“Frankly, it is not fitting for you to use my name there. My firmness of struggle, my conviction — that is my conviction in the ideals of the nation’s founders,” he said.

Prabowo said the economic policies currently being implemented are carrying out the mandate of the 1945 Constitution. According to him, natural resource wealth must be managed and utilised to the greatest benefit for the people.

Therefore, according to Prabowo, the economy being managed today is an economy grounded in Pancasila.

“We want independence so that all Indonesians can live decently. How can we provide a decent life for our people if our wealth is continually taken, carried abroad, and not enjoyed by our own people?” said Prabowo.

Prabowo attended the peak of PKB’s 28th anniversary celebration at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Jakarta on Thursday evening. The President arrived at around 19:40 WIB, accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and PKB Chairman Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar.
