Prabowo issues three regulations to strengthen national food security
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has issued three new regulations to accelerate the enhancement of national food security as the primary foundation for realising national self-reliance through food self-sufficiency.
βIn order to strengthen national food security, support is needed for the provision of post-harvest infrastructure in Indonesian regions,β states an excerpt from Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 14 of 2026 on the Acceleration of the Implementation of Post-Harvest Infrastructure Provision for National Food Security, quoted from the website of the Ministry of State Secretariat in Jakarta on Friday.
The regulation aims to encourage synergy between the central and regional governments to accelerate the provision of post-harvest facilities across various regions. Through Perpres 14/2026, the government targets a reduction in dependence on rented warehouses.
In addition, the policy is expected to promote equitable availability of post-harvest infrastructure to maintain food stability throughout the country.
Furthermore, the President has issued Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 2 of 2026 on the Acceleration of Food Self-Sufficiency in the Agricultural Sector. Through this regulation, the President orders the strengthening of governance and cross-stakeholder collaboration to achieve the national priority programme.
The President instructs his subordinates to take coordinated and integrated steps in accordance with their respective duties, functions, and authorities to implement the acceleration of food availability from domestic production and the improvement of food distribution management.
These specific instructions are directed to the Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Finance, Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Agency (BUMN), up to the Head of the National Food Agency (BP Danantara). The Minister of Agriculture is specifically tasked with assigning several state-owned enterprises such as PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, PT Perkebunan Nusantara III, to Perum Bulog to accelerate self-sufficiency.
The third regulation enacted is Inpres Number 3 of 2026 on the Procurement and Management of Domestic Corn as well as the Distribution of Government Corn Reserves for 2026-2029. The regulation emphasises the strengthening of national corn stocks while also aiming to improve farmer welfare.
The corn Inpres is directed to various ministries and agencies, including the Coordinating Minister for Food, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, up to the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Chief of Police. Its main focus is to support the achievement of corn self-sufficiency and ensure food accessibility for the public.
The government emphasises that the acceleration of infrastructure and governance requires full support in the form of expedited permitting, land provision, and resolution of technical obstacles in the field so that the target of food independence can be quickly achieved.
