Prabowo Issues Sudden Warning to Petrol Motorcycle Users, Here's Why

President Prabowo Subianto issued a warning to petrol motorcycle users during the launch of the National Electric Motorcycle Programme in Cikarang, West Java, on Thursday. According to Prabowo, using electric motorcycles is currently far more economical and efficient compared to petrol motorcycles.

Additionally, the government is providing various incentives and facilities for the purchase of electric motorcycles, such as plans to waive down payments and interest on instalments.

“So, for those of you who still use petrol motorcycles, you will feel the pinch. We have calculated that using an electric motorcycle compared to a petrol one saves at least 50 per cent of your daily transport expenses, and it can even reach 70 per cent,” Prabowo stated.

Prabowo added that it would be a loss for the public to continue using petrol motorcycles. Moreover, there are plans to impose a carbon tax, as has already been implemented in developed countries.

“And later, because this is a global necessity, there will be a carbon tax. In big cities like Beijing, petrol motorcycles are not allowed to enter. So, consider this a warning for those who are still stubbornly attached to their petrol motorcycles,” he said.

Prabowo also offered a solution for petrol motorcycle users to switch to electric vehicles. He mentioned that the government is currently devising a scheme for this transition.

“But don’t worry, we have schemes in place. For those who already own a petrol motorcycle, we are thinking about how we can implement a trade-in. You hand over your old motorcycle and get a new one, with just a small top-up, right?” he explained.
