President Prabowo Subianto was scheduled to sign a trade agreement between Indonesia and the United States during his working visit to the US on Thursday (19/2/2026) local time. The commitment was conveyed by Prabowo whilst attending a Business Forum with the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

At the forum, Prabowo affirmed that the trade agreement would provide certainty for business players and investors from both countries.

“I am here to finalise a major trade agreement between our two nations. I think this is a very significant agreement for business players and investors from both countries, as well as for the broader Pacific region,” Prabowo said in a written statement on Thursday (19/2/2026).

According to him, the deal sends a strong signal that Indonesia and the United States choose to continue deepening economic cooperation.

“This sends a clear signal that Indonesia and the United States choose to continue deepening economic cooperation, strengthening market access, and creating greater certainty for the business community,” he continued.

Prabowo assessed that the strengthening of economic relations would open new opportunities for trade and investment growth in the region.

Inviting US Businesses to Partner and Driving Downstream Processing

Beyond signing the trade agreement, Prabowo also invited American entrepreneurs to forge long-term partnerships with Indonesia.

“We are looking for serious, long-term partners — partners who will work with us, grow economies together, and achieve mutual benefit,” he said.

He stressed that Indonesia needs strategic partners in its national modernisation and industrialisation efforts.

“We hope to find partners ready to join our ongoing efforts to modernise and industrialise my country,” Prabowo continued.

During the event, Prabowo also touched on the role of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, which is now focused on carrying out downstream processing projects.

“We continue to press forward with downstream industrial processing. And I think Danantara will be a key engine for this step. For example, we have just launched 18 new downstream processing projects this year,” he said.

He noted that Danantara has the potential to become a principal partner for companies and investors in the industrial sector.

Prabowo also expressed his hope that Indonesia would not merely be viewed as a market, but also as a production base for American companies.

Highlighting Economic Fundamentals and Commitment to Eradicating Corruption

Prabowo affirmed that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals are currently in a strong and stable condition.

He noted that national economic growth has consistently remained above 5 per cent, inflation is under control, and fiscal discipline has been maintained.

According to him, this stability makes Indonesia an attractive investment destination for global investors.

“Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has been very good. Last year it reached USD 53 billion. This reflects confidence in our economy, the size of our market, our growth potential, political stability, and our policy direction,” Prabowo said.

Nevertheless, Prabowo acknowledged that his administration still faces a number of challenges, including corruption, smuggling, and illegal economic activities.

“I choose to confront these problems head-on,” he affirmed.
