Prabowo Invites US Businesses to Invest in Indonesia: We Are Open and Competitive
JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto has urged global business leaders to consider Indonesia as an investment destination, expressing confidence in the country’s competitiveness and openness to foreign capital.
The head of state delivered the message before American business executives at a Business Summit held at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC on Wednesday (18 February 2026) local time.
Prabowo presented to the group of US entrepreneurs, showcasing Indonesia’s abundant natural resource wealth and promoting investment opportunities across various sectors amid an era of accelerated industrialisation.
“We are very open to investment. We need investment and we want more investment. We are confident that we are competitive and attractive,” Prabowo said in Washington DC, as quoted on Thursday (19 February 2026).
In terms of natural resources, he continued, Indonesia possesses critical mineral reserves including nickel, copper and bauxite — key raw materials for future technologies.
“I believe we have strength in critical minerals. I have also received reports that Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest rare earth reserves in the world,” he added.
On the industrialisation front, Prabowo said Indonesia is now focused on downstream processing of its natural resources. He noted that the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) will initiate 18 downstream processing projects this year, including a waste-to-energy project valued at Rp 50.4 trillion (USD 3 billion).
“We continue to advance in industrial downstream processing, where Danantara serves as the primary driving force. We are moving very quickly in these sectors,” he explained.
Nevertheless, Indonesia remains committed to maintaining a favourable investment climate through regulatory certainty, law enforcement and good governance. According to Prabowo, these factors are key to attracting foreign investment interest.
“For business leaders, certainty is the most important thing. No one wants to invest in a situation or atmosphere filled with uncertainty, instability, or even chaos,” Prabowo concluded.
