Prabowo Invites PM Modi to Prambanan
The state visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Indonesia continued in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (8/7). Alongside President Prabowo Subianto, Modi is scheduled to visit Prambanan Temple to attend several agendas, including the signing of a cooperation agreement for the conservation of the world heritage site.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the visit to Prambanan Temple is one of the key agendas during PM Modi’s visit to Indonesia. In addition to discussing cultural heritage preservation cooperation, Modi will also perform religious services at the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia.
“Today, Prime Minister Modi, together with President Prabability, will depart for Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan Temple, one of the largest Hindu temple sites and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The agenda includes the signing of a cooperation agreement for the conservation of Prambanan Temple. Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi will also take the opportunity to perform worship at the Prambanan Temple complex,” Prasetyo Hadi told reporters on Wednesday (8/7).
Prasetyo explained that this agenda is a continuation of PM Modi’s series of state visits which began on Tuesday (7/7). Modi’s arrival commenced with an official welcoming ceremony at the State Palace, followed by bilateral meetings with President Prabowo and concluded with a state luncheon.
Following the agenda at the State Palace, PM Modi continued his visit to the parliamentary complex. There, he was received by the Chairpersons of the MPR, DPR, and DPD, along with the leadership of Indonesia’s legislative institutions and members of parliament.
In the evening, Modi attended a meeting with the Indian community residing in Jakarta. This activity served as the conclusion to the first day’s agenda before proceeding to the visit in Yogyakarta.
President Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia and India share strong historical ties and commonalities as two of the largest democracies in the world. PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Prambanan Temple is part of a broader effort regarding restoration cooperation and the signing of several strategic MoUs with Indonesia.
Five cooperation documents have been agreed upon by both nations. Khairul Fahmi, an observer from the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS), highlighted the moments of rapport between President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the official ceremony, President Prabowo ascended the saluting base, where the Indian national anthem was played accompanied by a 21-gun salute.
