Prabowo Invites Kyai and Leaders of Islamic Organisations to Iftar at the Presidential Palace Today
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Prabowo Subianto has invited kyai and leaders of Islamic community organisations to gather for silaturahmi while breaking the fast at the central courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on Thursday evening at 19:00 WIB. The invitation was confirmed by Amirsyah Tambunan, Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). ‘Yes, it is to maintain ties while breaking the fast,’ he said in a short text message. He did not detail the topics to be discussed. However, Amirsyah confirmed that the meeting will be attended by the chairperson, vice-chairpersons, and other MUI officials. As previously noted, Prabowo also convened Islamic organisation figures and pondok pesantren leaders at the Istana on 4 February 2026. At that time, the discussions related to Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace, a body formed by US President Donald Trump. Recently, MUI has urged the government to take a stance to withdraw from the Board of Peace. MUI also condemned the Israel-US supported attack on Iran. ‘Because it is in conflict with humanitarian values and the opening of the 1945 Constitution,’ the MUI press release Kep-28/DP-MUI/III/2026 stated. In its press release, MUI also expressed deep condolences on the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei following the Israel-America attack on February 28, 2026. ‘Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. As a martyr, we pray for him to be a resident of heaven. Amen,’ wrote MUI.
