Prabowo invites Jusuf Kalla to attend Iftar at the Presidential Palace
President Prabowo Subianto has invited former vice president Jusuf Kalla to a joint Iftar at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. The Iftar, which was also attended by leaders of various Islamic organisations, is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, 5 March 2026.
Kalla was invited to attend in his capacity as Chairman of the Dewan Masjid Indonesia. ‘Mr Kalla has been invited in his capacity as the head of the Dewan Masjid Indonesia,’ said Nusron Wahid, head of the MUI’s Disaster Management division, who also attended the Iftar at the Presidential Palace on Thursday.
In addition to Kalla, Nusron said other leaders of Islamic community organisations were also invited. Some guests already present at the Presidential Palace included Anwar Iskandar, Chairman of the MUI, and Haedar Nashir, Chairman of Muhammadiyah.
According to Nusron, other Islamic religious leaders also received invitations to the Iftar from Prabowo. In addition to the organisational leaders, several heads of major pesantren were invited to join the afternoon programme.
Ahmad Muzani, deputy speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and a Gerindra politician who leads Prabowo, said the Head of State may take the opportunity to discuss with the NGO leaders during the Iftar. One topic, he said, is Indonesia’s position on the Board of Peace.
Muzani claimed that in principle Prabowo is open to receiving ideas and views from all community leaders. ‘So tomorrow will be part of that effort; the president wants to listen to those viewpoints while also sharing his own views on the matter (the Board of Peace),’ Muzani said on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
Prabowo had previously invited a number of Islamic non-governmental organisations to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. The meeting discussed Indonesia’s decision to join the Board of Peace and its impact on the Palestinian people’s struggle.
Several leaders of Islamic organisations attended the meeting, including the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama, and the Majelis Ulama Indonesia.
At that time, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the President explained the reasons and considerations for joining the Board of Peace to the leaders of the organisations. The forum, he said, became a space to convey policy points so that they could be understood and accepted by various quarters.
‘I think this afternoon’s meeting will also be an opportunity for the President to present those points with the hope that they will be understood by all parties,’ Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace on 3 February 2026.
