JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has invited Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to make an official visit to Indonesia. Prabowo wishes to reciprocate the warm welcome he received during his visit to Japan. “Once again, I felt greatly respected by the Japanese government and people, and I would like to invite the honourable Prime Minister of Japan, the honourable Sanae Takaichi, to make an official visit to Indonesia. We will also welcome her warmly,” said Prabowo, in a statement seen from the Kompas TV broadcast on Tuesday (31/3/2026). This was also conveyed by Prabowo in the presence of the Japanese Prime Minister after the two held a bilateral meeting at Akasaka Palace, Tokyo, Japan. “As well as the invitation extended to me to visit Japan during this beautiful cherry blossom season,” he continued. Specifically, Prabowo also extended congratulations to Sanae Takaichi on her victory in the Japanese election. “As fellow politicians, I congratulate you on your noble and significant victory in the recent election in Japan,” said Prabowo. According to him, his visit to Japan is aimed at further strengthening the relations between the two countries, which have already been running well. “Yesterday, I was received by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, and once again I reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening relations between Japan and Indonesia, which have indeed been long-standing and running very well,” he stated.
