President Prabowo Subianto has invited Germany to expand its investments in Indonesia’s strategic sectors, including energy transition, industrial downstream processing, electric vehicles, and semiconductor development. The invitation was made during a state visit by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the State Palace on Monday, 15 June 2026. Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Germany have agreed to continue increasing mutually beneficial trade and investment volumes. He emphasised the importance of Indonesia-Europe relations and expressed hope that the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) would reach a substantive conclusion. The President affirmed that Indonesia is opening greater opportunities for German investors to participate in national strategic projects. Beyond energy and electric vehicles, the government also invited Germany to take part in the supply chain for critical minerals and rare earth elements, as well as infrastructure development. Prabowo also welcomed the ‘Partnering and Business with Germany’ programme, which is aimed at supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
