President Prabowo Subianto has invited Germany to increase investment in various strategic sectors in Indonesia, including new and renewable energy, industrial downstreaming, semiconductors, electric vehicles, and the development of critical mineral supply chains. The invitation was conveyed during a state visit by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (15/6/2026). The move aligns with the government’s efforts to accelerate national industrialisation while strengthening the 75-year bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Germany.

President Prabowo explained that Indonesia possesses several potential sectors for investment cooperation with Germany, including clean energy development, industrial downstreaming, the semiconductor industry, and the electric vehicle ecosystem currently being promoted by the government. Indonesia is also opening opportunities for cooperation in developing supply chains for critical minerals and rare earth elements, which play a vital role in supporting national industrial development and the energy transition.

According to Prabowo, the partnership with Germany holds strategic value given the country’s position as one of Europe’s major economic powers. “We need a good partnership with Germany and with Europe. The German President’s visit is a sign that this relationship is very important,” he added.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated that Indonesia has long been viewed as a country with significant market potential and a promising investment destination. This is reflected in the sustained investments of German companies that have long operated in Indonesia, such as Siemens and Daimler. Steinmeier also affirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting the ratification process of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). He noted that the agreement would open broader investment opportunities and encourage more small and medium-sized German enterprises to invest in Indonesia.

“This cooperation can drive economic growth and closer collaboration between German and Indonesian companies in the field of innovation. Your Excellency Mr President, I believe this is beneficial for both parties, for both countries,” he stated. The government hopes that strengthening economic cooperation between Indonesia and Germany can accelerate the development of national strategic industries, expand quality investment, and support sustainable economic growth for both nations.
