Prabowo Invites German Investment in Energy Transition and Electric Vehicles

President Prabowo Subianto and President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier have agreed to increase the volume of trade and investment. Prabowo hopes Germany will play an important role in Indonesia’s cooperation and partnership in Europe. “We agreed to continue increasing the mutually beneficial volume of trade and investment. I emphasised the importance of Indonesia-Europe relations and we hope the Indonesia-European Union CEPA agreement can reach a substantive conclusion. We hope Germany will continue to play an active role in the finalisation process of the internal agreement in Europe so that it can immediately provide concrete benefits for businesses in both countries,” said Prabowo alongside Steinmeier at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (15/6/2026). Besides the Indonesia-European Union CEPA, Indonesia is cooperating with Germany through the CITA programme, namely the Competitiveness Industrial Modernization and Trade Acceleration Program. Prabowo invited all German economic entities to expand investment in a number of strategic fields. “Indonesia also invites the German side to expand investment in important sectors in Indonesia. For example, in the field of energy transition, industrial downstreaming, and vehicles as we are moving towards electric vehicles, as well as the development of the semiconductor industry,” said Prabowo. Prabowo also invited Germany to participate in developing the supply of critical minerals and rare earths. Germany was also invited to join economic forum events and the strengthening of MSMEs. “We also invite Germany to participate in the supply chain of critical minerals and rare earths as well as in the development of our infrastructure. In addition, we welcome the Partnering in Business with Germany programme aimed at MSME programmes. Indonesia will also host the second Joint Economic and Investment Committee this year,” said Prabowo. In other areas, Prabowo appreciated the health workforce cooperation that has been agreed upon by both countries. Prabowo wants to expand this to the high-tech sector. “In the field of health workforce, we greatly appreciate the signing of the Letter of Intent regarding the Global Skills Partnership in nursing. Indonesia also wants to expand employment opportunities for Indonesian workers in Germany, including in the high-tech sector,” he added.
