Prabowo Invited by Iran to Visit Tehran

People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Ahmad Muzani has conveyed an invitation from the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to President Prabowo Subianto to visit the nation’s capital. Muzani stated the invitation was extended by the Iranian government whilst he was attending the funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Mashhad, Iran. “The Iranian government hopes to invite the President of the Republic of Indonesia to visit Tehran,” Muzani said following a meeting with the Supreme Court in Jakarta on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. He noted that the invitation had already been delivered to President Prabowo upon his return from Mashhad, Iran. However, he did not yet know the president’s response to the invitation. “The invitation has been conveyed to Mr Prabowo,” he stated. On Thursday, 9 July 2026, the MPR Chairman and Foreign Minister Sugiono departed for Mashhad as envoys of President Prabowo Subianto to attend the funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During the visit, they were received directly by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who also serves as the chief negotiator between Iran and the United States. “Doctor Mohammad Ghalibaf conveyed warm greetings to all the people and the nation of Indonesia, as well as the Government of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said. Additionally, Muzani, who attended as a representative of the Indonesian government and people, also expressed the deep condolences of the Indonesian people and nation over the passing of a leader deeply beloved by the Iranian people. “We offer our condolences on this matter; we feel how the Iranian people are saddened by the passing of their deeply beloved leader. The Indonesian people pray that the Iranian people may remain steadfast in facing this calamity,” he remarked.
