Prabowo Instructs Presidential Palace to Open for Schoolchildren
President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the Presidential Palace to be opened for student visits. The programme, named “Palace for Schoolchildren”, begins at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that in this activity, students tour the Palace to learn about the nation’s history and government system.
“Following the instruction and desire of President Prabowo, we are opening the Palace to schoolchildren,” said Teddy on Tuesday morning.
Teddy explained that this step is part of the government’s focus on human resource development, particularly for the younger generation.
The inaugural visit of this programme was attended by students from State Vocational High School 19 Jakarta. Teddy was present directly for the series of activities, such as question-and-answer sessions and an introduction to the Palace environment.
“Then we invite them to see the Palace, we invite them to see the places where major national decisions have been made,” said Teddy.
Furthermore, Teddy stated that this programme will not only be implemented at Merdeka Palace and State Palace, but will also be expanded to all Presidential Palaces in various regions of Indonesia.
The government, said Teddy, will facilitate schools from various regions, including outside Java Island, to participate in this activity.
“We have eight, each Palace we will also open for schoolchildren. For those outside Jakarta or even outside Java Island, they will be facilitated to come here,” he said.
Teddy explained that schools interested in visiting the Presidential Palace can register with the Ministry of State Secretariat or the Cabinet Secretariat. The government, through the committee managing this programme, will later arrange visits for each school on a rotational basis.
He also emphasised that there is no special selection for schools wishing to join this programme. “So please register as I mentioned earlier, then it will be arranged by the committee,” he said.
