President Prabowo Subianto has requested that government officials refrain from hosting extravagant open houses during Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH.

He conveyed this instruction during a cabinet session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (13 August).

“We must also set an example — open houses or whatever should not be excessively lavish,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo reminded all officials under his administration to set a good example for all Indonesian citizens. He highlighted that many residents in Sumatra are still experiencing disaster conditions.

“But we also should not completely shut down all events — if we do, our economy won’t function either,” he added.

Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH is approaching soon. Muhammadiyah previously determined that Eid al-Fitr 1447 H falls on Friday, 20 March 2026. The new government will confirm 1 Syawal during an isbat session scheduled for 19 March.

This year’s Eid al-Fitr is also expected to fall on different dates, similar to how Ramadan began this year.

Thomas Djamaluddin, a researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), estimates that during the isbat session on 19 March 2026, the hilal (crescent moon) may not be visible. This is because on that date, the new moon does not meet the MABIMS criteria requirements.

“On the evening of 19 March 2026 in the Southeast Asian region, the hilal position does not meet the new MABIMS criteria, therefore 1 Syawal 1447 = 21 March 2026,” Thomas wrote in his blog post from June 2025.
