Prabowo Instructs Free Nutritious Meal Program Kitchens to Avoid Omelettes: Eggs Must Be Fried or Boiled
Prabowo Subianto expressed these instructions during a consolidation meeting for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme held at the Sentul International Convention Centre (SICC), Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
“Partners, secondly, do not make omelettes,” Prabowo stated. He warned that omelette menus do not contain full nutritional value because they are susceptible to being mixed with flour. He emphasised that eggs served in the MBG programme for students must be whole, such as sunny-side up or boiled eggs.
“If it is an omelette, as someone who has been Indonesian for a long time, I know that omelettes are often mixed with various things. The flour ends up being more abundant than the egg. Therefore, the egg must be whole, either fried or boiled,” he said.
Prabowo also highlighted the size of chicken portions served to children, reminding kitchens not to serve chicken pieces that are too small. During the session, he asked his team to demonstrate the difference between chicken portions using two plates. One plate contained a chicken cut into 14 pieces, resulting in very small portions, while the other plate showed a chicken cut into only eight pieces.
“Look at the chicken, look at it. The left one, can you see? Small portion. This is cut into 14. See? The left one is chicken cut into 14,” Prabowo said while presenting a plate.
“How many is this? This one is eight. The right one is eight,” he continued, pointing to the larger chicken pieces.
Prabowo issued a warning to partners serving chicken cut into 14 pieces and requested the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, to oversee the implementation of these instructions.
“If it is cut into more than 14 pieces, it is a sin. How many millions of Indonesian children will be disappointed? Correct?” Prabowo asked.
“That is right, isn’t it? Later, I will ask the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education to instruct headteachers, teachers, and students to report back. Whether the chicken is small or large. If necessary, they should take random photos and weigh them. Yes, okay,” he concluded.
