Prabowo initiates calls with gulf leaders after US' strikes on Iran

In a recorded statement received here on Wednesday, Sugiono said that nearly all crucial phone calls had been carried out by the President amid the escalating armed conflict between Iran and Israel.

“Yes, the calls (to Gulf countries) have been made. (All of them) have been contacted,” Sugiono remarked when asked which countries had been reached by the President.

He noted that Indonesia’s communication efforts with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) of Saudi Arabia are still awaiting a mutually convenient time.

“The call has been made and we are still waiting for MBS’ availability, (but) have not yet found a suitable time,” he stated, without elaborating on the substance of the talks.

The outreach was conducted amid rising concerns among Gulf nations, which are directly affected by the conflict’s escalation, including threats to regional security and stability.

Countries classified as Gulf states include Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman.

In addition, Sugiono stated that President Prabowo has conveyed Indonesia’s readiness to act as a mediator, particularly if Iran and the United States express willingness to open space for mediation.

Previously on March 1, Prabowo said he is ready to travel to Iran to facilitate dialogue aimed at restoring security and reducing escalation in the Middle East.

Indonesia has called on all parties to exercise restraint, prioritize diplomacy, and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation, urging disputes be resolved through peaceful means.
