Prabowo: Indonesia's Wealth Is Leaking Too Much, We Will Stop It

Prabowo said, ‘We must have strength, that is why we are building our strength, protecting our wealth. And now we manage our wealth ourselves. We do not want our wealth to be continually exploited by certain people, by certain countries,’ during the Panen Raya Udang event at the Tambak Budi Daya Udang Berbasis Kawasan in Kebumen, Central Java. He spoke about strength while explaining that the world is beset by wars in several places. ‘There are many disputes in the world now, wars everywhere. We thank the Almighty, we are not involved, but we remain vigilant,’ he said. Prabowo added that guarding and utilising Indonesia’s wealth is a mandate of the 1945 Constitution. He insisted that Indonesia’s wealth must be enjoyed by the people, not exploited by a small circle. ‘And this is for the prosperity of all Indonesians, not just a few,’ he declared. He said he has frequently articulated these directives. Prabowo said he is committed to stopping such leakages. ‘Most recently, on 20 May I spoke before the Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat Indonesia (MPR), which was broadcast live on television, where I emphasised that Indonesia is truly very rich, but much of our wealth leaks out,’ he said. ‘This leakage must be stopped. And I am determined, I will spare no effort with my aides to do whatever is necessary to stop the leakage of the people’s wealth, because that wealth must be enjoyed by all Indonesians, not just a small elite,’ he added.
