Prabowo: Indonesia's rice and corn production highest in history
President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia’s current rice and corn production has reached the highest level in the history of the nation, coinciding with the achievement of food self-sufficiency in several main commodities. “Our rice and corn production is the highest since our country was founded,” Prabowo said during his address at the peak of the XVII National Week (PENAS) of the Mainstay Farmers and Fishermen Contact (KTNA) in 2026 in Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province, as monitored from the official broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Wednesday. The President said this achievement was the result of the hard work of farmers and fishermen, as well as all parties involved in the development of the national food sector. According to Prabowo, food self-sufficiency has become one of his administration’s greatest achievements in recent months. “The biggest thing we have achieved, and I feel grateful for, is that we are self-sufficient in food,” he said. Indonesia, Prabowo stated, is now capable of producing various strategic food commodities, including rice and corn, to meet domestic needs. The President assessed that this success could not be separated from the cooperation of various ministries, regional governments, and the support of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) in the food production increase programme. Prabowo also expressed his appreciation to Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and the government ranks involved in the national food security programme. In addition, he appreciated the support of governors, regents, and farmers in various regions who contributed to the increase in national food production. Prabowo stressed that food self-sufficiency is an important foundation for national resilience because no country can survive without adequate food availability. “We are confident that we will be self-sufficient in food not just for one year. Forever, we will be self-sufficient in food,” the President said.
