Prabowo: Indonesian Police Must Feel the People's Suffering

President Prabowo Subianto has called on the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to feel the suffering of the people. For Prabowo, the police should always be in the midst of the community. The Head of State made these remarks while acting as the inspecting officer at the Bhayangkara Day commemoration ceremony on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, in the Cikeas area, Bogor, West Java. Prabowo stated that the Polri institution must have a strong character because it was born from the independence struggle. He explained that since its inception, the police force has been actively involved in the battles to fight for independence. Therefore, Polri has a closeness with the people. “Because of that, the Indonesian National Police has the nature of always being in the midst of the people and must always defend the people, feel the suffering of the people,” Prabowo said on Wednesday morning. On that occasion, Prabowo appreciated Polri’s active involvement in supporting his government’s programmes. He considered that Polri now plays a role in national food security, especially through the development of corn production and the construction of food warehouses in various regions. “I have seen for myself Polri building much-needed food warehouses, warehouses of very good quality,” Prabowo said. Prabowo also praised Polri’s contribution to supporting the implementation of the free nutritious meals (MBG) project. The Gerindra Party chairman mentioned that Polri has built more than a thousand nutritional fulfilment service units (SPPG) or MBG kitchens. “I do not hesitate to say here, the kitchens built by Polri are the best kitchens. And this is not just my word. Many observers, many reviewers from world institutions who came to Indonesia saw these kitchens, and most of those they saw were Polri’s kitchens,” Prabowo stated. In addition, Prabowo appreciated Polri’s role in constructing boreholes, bridges, and its presence on the front lines during disasters. “This is the spirit that you must continue to maintain,” he said.
