Prabowo: Indonesian economy remains strong amid global challenges

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the Indonesian economy remains strong amid global challenges and has not collapsed as a number of predictions previously suggested. Speaking at a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, the President said this condition is reflected in various government achievements despite a global situation still marked by conflict and food security challenges. “This month it will collapse, this month it will collapse, this month it will collapse. It turns out that day by day it is getting stronger, day by day it is getting stronger,” said Prabowo. The President’s statement was made as the global economy continues to face uncertainty due to geopolitical conflicts, pressure on food and energy prices, and a slowdown in world trade. On the other hand, the government recorded Indonesia’s economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 at around 5.6 per cent and considers food security to be one of the pillars supporting national economic stability. According to the President, Indonesia is in a better position than a number of other countries in dealing with food issues because it has strengthened its food self-sufficiency efforts earlier. Prabowo also appreciated the performance of the Red and White Cabinet ministers who have managed to resolve various issues and implement government programmes. Nevertheless, he reminded the entire cabinet not to become complacent because there is still much work to be done to improve the welfare of the people. The mid-year Plenary Cabinet Session was held as a forum to evaluate the implementation of government programmes ahead of the President’s state address on 16 August 2026.
