Prabowo: Indonesian economy remains strong amid global challenges

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the Indonesian economy remains strong amidst global challenges and has not collapsed as a number of predictions had previously suggested.

At a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, the President said this condition was reflected in the government’s various achievements amid a global situation still marked by conflict and food security challenges.

“This month it will collapse, this month it will collapse, this month it will collapse. In fact, it grows stronger by the day, stronger by the day,” said Prabowo.

The President’s remarks were made whilst the global economy still faces uncertainty due to geopolitical conflicts, food and energy price pressures, and slowing world trade.

Meanwhile, the government recorded Indonesian economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 at around 5.6 per cent and considers food security one of the pillars supporting national economic stability.

According to the President, Indonesia is in a better position than a number of other countries in facing food problems, as it took steps to strengthen food self-sufficiency earlier.

Prabowo also commended the performance of the ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, who have been able to resolve various problems and implement government programmes.

Nevertheless, he reminded the entire cabinet not to become complacent too quickly, as much work remains to be done to improve the welfare of the people.

The mid-year Plenary Cabinet Session was held as a forum to evaluate the implementation of government programmes ahead of the President’s State of the Nation Address on 16 August 2026.
