Prabowo: Indonesia Will Not Interfere in Other Nations' Domestic Affairs
President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia does not wish to interfere in the domestic affairs of other nations. According to Prabowo, he will maintain this position throughout his presidency. Prabowo conveyed his stance whilst delivering remarks at the Nuzulul Quran commemoration at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday evening, 10 March 2026.
In his speech, Prabowo discussed peace and the desire to maintain friendly relations with all nations in the world. The Indonesian nation, under his leadership, is committed to nurturing friendship and good relations with all nations and states, including global powers, Prabowo stated. “We do not wish to interfere in the domestic affairs of any country,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo said this stance represents the path chosen by Indonesia’s founding fathers. “We respect all powers in the world, both great and small,” said the General Chair of the Gerindra Party.
According to Prabowo, maintaining peace is a teaching of nearly all religions and all their leaders. “We will work extremely hard to maintain peace,” said the former Defence Minister.
The Nuzulul Quran commemoration at the State Palace was attended by government officials and parliamentarians. Among those present were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani. Islamic religious figures including Quraish Shihab also attended.
Prabowo’s speech at this Nuzulul Quran commemoration was delivered amid conflict in the Middle East. The escalation of tensions in the region occurred following attacks by American and Israeli military forces on Iran on 28 February 2026.
The aerial assault on Tehran, Iran’s capital, killed several leaders of the Islamic Republic, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran launched retaliatory attacks on Israeli territory and neighbouring countries hosting American military bases. Attacks from the US and Israel against Iran have continued.
On Tuesday, 10 March 2026, the conflict in the region entered its eleventh day. The war has also resulted in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil distribution route. On the same day, United States President Donald Trump stated that the war launched by his country and Israel against Iran would soon conclude.
