Prabowo: Indonesia Will Not Be a Beggar Nation If Pancasila Values Are Practised
President Prabowo Subianto is confident that Indonesia will not become a nation dependent on foreign aid if Pancasila values are applied comprehensively across all aspects of life. According to Prabowo, this can be achieved if citizens earnestly uphold the principles of statehood and nationhood in political, legal, social, cultural, and economic domains whilst adhering to Pancasila.
“I am convinced that Indonesia will not only become an advanced and prosperous nation, Indonesia will become a nation respected by other nations because its people are prosperous,” said Prabowo when serving as the inspector of the Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony at the Foreign Ministry complex in central Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026.
He expressed optimism that Indonesia can become a strong nation through unity, a prosperous nation through justice, and a great nation through its humanity. “A nation capable of becoming a force for world peace, a nation that does not beg for assistance, a nation capable of helping other nations,” he added.
During the same occasion, Prabowo expressed his desire for the nation’s economic transformation towards a system entirely grounded in Pancasila values. For Prabowo, this Pancasila economy is based on at least four principles: religiosity, humanitarianism, national unity, and social justice.
The head of state emphasised that natural wealth is not a commodity freely traded. “Natural wealth is a mandate from Almighty God that must be managed responsibly for the greatest prosperity of the people,” said Prabowo.
The chairman of Gerindra Party stated that economic development must not be solely oriented towards statistical figures. According to him, the success of national development should be measured by improvements in the quality of life of the people, especially the most vulnerable groups.
Prabowo then explained that an economy grounded in Pancasila means the economic system must serve national and people’s interests. Indonesian economics, he stated, must not benefit only a select few.
Furthermore, the former Defence Minister also reminded that a Pancasila-based economy means an egalitarian and people-centred economic system. He referenced the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution that Indonesia’s economy is structured as a joint endeavour based on the principle of kinship.
Prabowo then emphasised that Indonesia’s economy must be based on social justice principles. He stated that socially just economics is the core of the entire nation’s struggle. “Economic growth must be accompanied by equitable development and must be felt by all Indonesian people,” said Prabowo.
