Prabowo: Indonesia Ready to Deploy 8,000 Troops to Gaza Within 1-2 Months
Washington — President Prabowo Subianto has declared that Indonesian military (TNI) forces will be deployed to Gaza, Palestine, within the next one to two months.
In Gaza, some 8,000 TNI personnel will serve alongside the International Stabilisation Force (ISF), whose members comprise troops from nations belonging to the Gaza Board of Peace (BoP).
"Perhaps not long — another one to two months," President Prabowo told reporters after the inaugural Gaza Board of Peace Summit in Washington DC, United States, on Thursday afternoon, 19 February local time.
Prabowo also indicated that an advance team would likely be sent to Gaza ahead of the main contingent. The advance team would be deployed in relatively modest numbers, as their mission would include mapping the area and analysing risks ahead of the TNI's service alongside the ISF.
At the same event, Prabowo reiterated that Indonesia had been entrusted with the role of ISF Deputy Commander.
"They have asked us to serve as deputy commander," President Prabowo said.
The President accordingly affirmed that Indonesia would appoint its finest officer to represent the country as ISF Deputy Commander.
"We will select someone — we will find the best," President Prabowo said.
At the inaugural Board of Peace Summit held at the Donald J Trump Institute of Peace in Washington DC on Thursday 19 February local time, President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia's readiness to deploy 8,000 TNI troops to serve with the ISF in Gaza, Palestine.
"The ceasefire in Gaza represents a tangible achievement. We commend this accomplishment, and to that end we reaffirm our commitment to contributing a significant number of troops — 8,000, and potentially more if required," President Prabowo said during his address at the Board of Peace Summit.
Meanwhile, ISF Commander Major General Jasper Jeffers of the United States Armed Forces stated that projections call for 20,000 soldiers and 12,000 police officers to serve with the ISF in restoring post-war conditions in Gaza.
Major General Jeffers indicated that Rafah, located in southern Gaza and bordering Egypt, would be the ISF's first area of operations.
