Prabowo: Indonesia Is Truly Rich, But Much of Its Wealth Leaks Away

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, acknowledged that Indonesia possesses abundant wealth. However, that wealth leaks away and is not enjoyed by all segments of society. ‘Indonesia is really very rich, but too much of our wealth leaks away,’ Prabowo said in Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday (23 May 2026), quoted from the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat. Prabowo pledged to stop every leakage. The Head of State also promised to stop the leakage so that every natural resource wealth is felt by all Indonesian people. ‘Because wealth must be enjoyed by all the people of Indonesia. Not just a handful,’ he said. Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia must also have the capacity to guard its natural wealth. ‘We must have strength, that’s why we are building our defence strength to guard our wealth,’ he said. He does not want Indonesia to be toyed with by certain parties. ‘We do not want our wealth to be continually manipulated by certain people, by certain countries,’ Prabowo said.
