Prabowo: Indonesia First Country to Implement B50 Biodiesel

President Prabowo Subianto said that Indonesia is the first country to implement a mandatory 50 per cent biodiesel blend, known as B50, on a national scale. Prabowo made the remarks while attending the launch of B50 biodiesel at the KM 57 rest area on the Cikampek toll road in Karawang Regency, West Java.

The B50 programme requires the blending of 50 per cent palm oil-based biodiesel into diesel fuel. “With the launch of this programme, Indonesia officially becomes the first country in the world to implement B50 biodiesel,” Prabowo said in Cikampek, Karawang, West Java, on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

The Head of State stated that B50 biodiesel is not merely a technological achievement, but proof that Indonesia is capable of harnessing its own natural wealth for the benefit of its people.

For Prabowo, the implementation of B50 represents an important milestone on the path towards national energy self-sufficiency. According to him, the survival of a nation is determined by its ability to produce its own food, energy and water.

The B50 policy forms part of the government’s agenda to reduce dependence on imported fuel, strengthen the added value of national natural resources, and safeguard Indonesia’s economic and energy resilience.

The legal basis for the implementation of B50 was established through Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 4 of 2025 concerning the Production and Utilisation of Biofuels, as well as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree Number 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026 of 2026.
