Prabowo: Indonesia First Country to Implement B50 Biodiesel

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia is the first country to implement the mandatory 50 per cent biodiesel blend, or B50, nationally. Prabowo made the announcement during the launch of the B50 biodiesel programme at the KM 57 Rest Area on the Cikampek Toll Road, Karawang Regency, West Java. The B50 programme requires a 50 per cent blend of palm oil-based biodiesel into diesel fuel. “With the launch of this programme, Indonesia officially becomes the first country in the world to implement B50 biodiesel,” Prabowo said in Cikampek, Karawang, West Java, on Thursday, 9 July 2026. The Head of State remarked that B50 biodiesel is not merely a technological achievement, but proof that Indonesia is capable of utilising its own natural wealth for the benefit of the people. For Prabowo, the implementation of B50 is a significant milestone on the path towards national energy self-sufficiency. He argued that the survival of a nation is determined by its ability to produce its own sources of food, energy, and water. The B50 policy is part of the government’s agenda to reduce dependence on fuel imports, strengthen the added value of national natural resources, and maintain Indonesia’s economic and energy resilience. The legal basis for the implementation of B50 was established through Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 4 of 2025 concerning the Business and Utilisation of Biofuels and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree Number 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026 of 2026.
