Prabowo: Indonesia Cannot Join Any Military Alliance
President Prabowo Subianto has declared that Indonesia will not join any military alliance. The Head of State said Indonesia maintains good relations with other nations and adopts a defensive military posture.
Prabowo made these remarks in an exclusive interview with international media Bloomberg. Indonesia is described as consistently implementing the free and active foreign policy principle enshrined in the 1945 Constitution, which commits the nation to remaining non-aligned and actively promoting world peace.
“We cannot be part of any military alliance,” Prabowo said at his private residence in Hambalang, West Java, according to a written statement from the Government Communications Agency.
Indonesia, Prabowo claimed, stands on its own feet and does not depend on the strength of other nations. Therefore, Indonesia must build adequate defence capabilities. “When something happens, we cannot depend on anyone,” Prabowo stated.
Global geopolitical conditions have intensified following sudden attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran in late February 2026. The combined military assault on Iranian airspace caused infrastructure damage and civilian casualties.
The US-Israeli strikes killed several leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran subsequently retaliated by deploying missiles and drones against Israel and all US military facilities in the Middle East region.
Amid the US-Israeli conflict with Iran, President Prabowo has offered himself as a peacemaker. According to Prabowo, all parties must be willing to engage in dialogue to end the war.
