Prabowo: Indonesia and Japan Ready to Mediate Conflicts
President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia and Japan are both ready to serve as mediators in conflicts occurring around the world. Prabowo expressed this stance in a joint press statement with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
According to Prabowo, Indonesia and Japan share aligned views on the importance of de-escalation efforts, especially amid intensifying global dynamics in the Middle East. “We are also ready to act as mediators if needed and to facilitate de-escalation efforts towards peace,” Prabowo said in the press statement.
Indonesia and Japan, Prabowo added, are deeply concerned about the current state of wars. “Amid this uncertainty, the good relations between Indonesia and Japan serve as an example of collaboration that directs and ensures stability and peace in our region,” he stated.
On the same occasion, Prime Minister Takaichi expressed appreciation for the progress in cooperation between Japan and Indonesia, particularly in the fields of economy and security. Takaichi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to further strengthening ties with Indonesia.
Takaichi expressed her hope to jointly strengthen and prosper the Indo-Pacific region. “I am grateful for the progress in various cooperations between Japan and Indonesia, especially in the fields of economy and security. I want to together strengthen and prosper the Indo-Pacific region,” she said.
Prior to visiting the Akasaka Palace, Prabowo first paid a visit to the Imperial Palace of Japan on Monday, 30 March. Prabowo met with Emperor Naruhito and his heir apparent, Fumihito, at the palace located in Tokyo.
In addition, Prabowo also attended a business forum in Tokyo with Indonesian and Japanese businesspeople. The forum was jointly organised by the Japan External Trade Organization or JETRO; Keidanren; Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry; and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
